Missing recording

Hi I joined a meeting as a guest (not logged in) and started recording the meeting to my PC after requesting permission.

At the end of the call, I could not locate the recording at all. It’s not in the usual places like Documents>Zoom etc.

I’ve read that if the host ends the call too quickly at the end, this could impact the recording downloading to the guests PC. Is this likely what’s happened here?

    Yes, that’s very likely what happened. When you join a Zoom meeting as a guest (not logged in) and are granted permission to record, the recording is saved locally to your computer. However, if the host ends the meeting before your recording has a chance to process and convert, the recording file may not be saved or may be lost.

    Here’s what typically happens:

    • When you stop recording or the meeting ends, Zoom needs a few moments to convert the recording file.
    • If the host ends the meeting abruptly, especially before the conversion process starts, the temporary recording file may not be properly saved to your computer.
    • As a result, you won’t find the recording in the usual Zoom folder (Documents > Zoom).

    What you can try:

    1. Check your computer’s Documents > Zoom folder for any new folders or files.
    2. Search your computer for files with the extension .zoom or .mp4 (the recording may be in a temporary location).
    3. If you find a .zoom file, you can try to recover it by opening the Zoom app, going to Meetings > Recorded, and seeing if there’s an option to convert the file.

    Unfortunately, if the recording conversion didn’t start before the meeting was ended, the file may not have been saved at all.

    To avoid this in the future:

    • Ask the host to wait a few moments after the meeting ends to ensure all recordings are processed.
    • Always check that the recording conversion window appears before closing Zoom.
