Good question. I think the honest answer is: “I can’t tell you exactly, because Zoom keeps that part to itself.”

Not trying to be difficult, but Zoom does seem to use some internal logic for deciding when it is no longer confident that you are the same person and wants to verify you again. In my own role, I use 4 different base accounts and around 20 user accounts across 7 machines, and I still have not worked out a clear pattern.

The other factor is that your organisation may have its own authentication settings. Many organisations, including mine, require confirmation codes to be sent by email. I have been caught out before by logging in on a device that could not access email, then having to run around the office to find the code.

My guess is that Zoom also uses browser cookies to recognise returning users, although I do not know how long those last. Logging into a different Zoom account on the same browser certainly seems to make that recognition disappear more quickly.

There may be documentation from Zoom on this somewhere, but I have not found anything that explains it clearly.
