Making a movie over Zoom

Hello dear community.

I’m currently planning on making a movie completely over Zoom. Therefore I’ve got a question.

When filming, how can I disable my video and call window so only the actors are in the call while shooting but I can record and see them act. I’ve read that Rob Savage for Host contacted the Zoom support for this and got administration rights. But my question is, can’t it be done without all that? I hope so. I hope my question was understandable.

    Hi @nshm01,

We’re glad to have you here. Welcome to Zoom Community!

Zoom does not offer a built-in feature to record a meeting while completely hiding the host’s video and call window from the recording if the host is present in the meeting. However, you can achieve a similar effect by:

    1. Turning off your (the host’s) video during the meeting—your video will not appear in the recording.
    2. Setting the recording layout to “Active Speaker” or “Gallery View” and pinning or spotlighting only the actors’ videos, so only they are visible in the recording.
    3. If you do not want your name or window to appear at all, you can join the meeting from a separate device as the host, keep that device muted with video off, and use another account to record or manage the session.

You do not need special admin rights for these steps. The key is to manage your video and the recording layout settings.

Please feel free to reach out anytime. Have a great day!
