What is the purpose of having the Zoom app for phone use and have the option to record a meeting automatically when it will not actually record it and save to your phone?

Hi Richie.Rich15,

Welcome to the Zoom Community.

Zoom’s mobile apps do not support local recording. Only desktop computes can save recordings locally (directly to the PC’s storage). So, even though the option appears in the mobile interface, it doesn’t create a file on your phone, it simply just initiates a cloud recording. It can definitely be confusing, but Zoom uses the same settings layout on both desktop and mobile for consistency.

Hello. No cloud recording was created as well.

If the meeting was recorded automatically, kindly double check on the Zoom web portal (zoom.us), under the “Personal” section, and go to “Recordings & Transcripts” and look for the "Cloud Recordings" tab. If you still don’t see it here, try to reach-out to your Zoom Admin so he can check it on his end, and create a tech support case if the recording is still unavailable.

This confused me too. The Zoom mobile app makes it look like meetings can be recorded directly to your phone, but on most accounts it actually records to Zoom Cloud Recording — not local storage on the device.

So “automatic recording” usually just means:
• start recording automatically when the meeting begins
• upload/save to Zoom’s cloud afterward

Not:
• save an MP4 directly into your phone gallery/files

And if you’re on a free plan, cloud recording may not even be available, which makes the feature feel even more misleading because the toggle exists but nothing usable appears afterward.

Mobile apps also don’t support true local recording the same way desktop Zoom does, mainly because of iOS/Android restrictions and storage/performance issues.

Honestly, Zoom’s recording UX on phones is way less clear than it should be.

I agree, that is really frustrating. If the Zoom mobile app shows an option to auto-record, it should clearly explain where the recording will be saved. Otherwise, it feels misleading, especially when users expect the meeting to save directly on their phone.
