Laptop Freezes when Joining Zoom Video Meetings

Hi, two of our users (both using Precision 5680s) their laptops will completely freeze when joining a Zoom meeting. It doesn’t happen initially after a laptop reboots but after 15 minutes or so of work, the freezing will begin when joining a video meeting. We’ve tried updating all drivers (including Intel GPU, camera and BIOS) and clean reinstalling Zoom. Do you know what we can troubleshoot next or what might be causing this issue?

They’re using an i9-13900H 5400 CPU and it just seems strange issue happened a couple weeks ago but has only happened to those two users.

    Hello @Luan Dao,

For Precision 5680 laptops with i9-13900H CPUs freezing when joining Zoom meetings, try this:

    1. Open the Zoom desktop client and sign in.
    2. Go to your profile picture > Settings.
    3. Click the Video tab, then Advanced.
    4. Change the Video Rendering Method to Direct3D9.
    5. Restart Zoom.

This adjustment can help resolve issues related to Intel Iris Integrated Graphics. Let me know if this helps!

Thanks MGSR, it looks like one of our users tried that but it seems like that didn’t help unfortunately. They did mention that once their camera is enabled, that’s when the freezing happens. I was originally thinking if P2P connection being enabled for the entire organization might be affecting it since it seems to happen more in 1:1 meetings. Would trying to revert to an older camera driver be the next recommended move?

Hi, just an update. We ended up finding that reverting those users back to a previous Windows update fixed the issue. There might’ve been some conflict with Zoom and the updates but interesting that it only impacted users with the Precision 5680 model. Just wanted to include this in case someone else ran into the same issue.
