Question

Keeping the instructor visible while sharing a yoga handout

What is the simplest Zoom layout for a short guided movement session when participants need to see both the instructor and a reference page?

I work on Ask Ayurveda. Our short yoga and breathing routine is the kind of handout I mean: readers need to see a movement rather than just read the instructions. This would be a general wellness session, not a medical consultation.

Would you share the page and ask participants to pin the instructor, or send the link in chat and keep the camera full screen? I would especially like to hear what works for people joining on phones, where a shared page can make the instructor very small.

    Hello,

For a short guided yoga or breathing session, I’d recommend keeping the instructor’s camera as the main focus and sharing the handout link in chat.

This works particularly well for participants joining on mobile phones, where screen sharing can make the instructor too small to follow movements comfortably.

    A few suggestions:

    1. Keep the instructor visible: Use Speaker View or Spotlight the instructor so participants can clearly follow the movements.

    2. Share the handout in chat: Participants can open it before or after the session without interrupting the live demonstration.

    3. Use screen sharing briefly: Display the reference page when explaining specific steps, then return to the instructor’s camera.

    4. Consider accessibility: Give clear verbal instructions so participants don't have to rely entirely on the video.

My recommendation: For mobile-friendly sessions, prioritize the instructor’s video and use the handout as an optional reference.

One question: Have you tried Spotlighting the instructor while screen sharing, and does it provide enough visibility for participants on smaller screens?

Hope this helps you create a smooth and engaging session!
