Issues when posting in CHAT

For years I was able to easily post notes with links in the chat window to share within my meetings. I am using the same computer, same browser, have the updated ZOOM and am logged in.  I have cleared cache/cookies, and tried typing it and cut/paste, but nothing seems to improve it.

Now, for the last 6 weeks or so it does not work right. It looks good on my end prior to hitting send, but then poof, its a mess!!

When I post, things will post bold that I didn't make bold. Links are partially linked, everything is super wonky. I have tried and tried, and cannot even edit the chat messages to correct. It is very difficult as people depend on me for putting this critical info in the chat.

I am simply perplexed at best. Open to ideas or suggestions.

Hello, and thank you for reaching out to the Zoom Community!

We completely understand how frustrating this must be, especially when your meeting participants rely on you for that critical information. You are definitely not alone in wanting this resolved quickly!

Based on what you've described — text unexpectedly becoming bold, links only partially linking, and formatting changing after the message is sent — this does not appear to be expected Zoom Chat behavior. 1 The fact that editing is also not correcting the issue adds another layer to investigate.

Here are a few things worth exploring:

  • Paste source interference — Even when typing manually, hidden formatting can sometimes carry over from other applications such as Microsoft Word, Outlook, or web pages. Try composing your message in a plain text editor (like Notepad) first, then copy and paste from there to strip any hidden formatting.

  • Test with a simple manual message — Type a short test message directly in Zoom Chat (do not paste) and send it to see whether the formatting still changes unexpectedly.

  • Try the Zoom Web App — Test the same message from the Zoom Web App or a different computer to determine whether the issue is specific to your current client.

  • Verify editing availability — If the Edit option is missing entirely from your messages, your organization's Zoom administrator may have disabled message editing as a policy setting.

  • Check for a Zoom client update — Even if you believe you're on the latest version, Zoom continues to ship Chat formatting and editing bug fixes regularly, so it's worth double-checking.

Since this has been ongoing for approximately six weeks and basic troubleshooting (cache clearing, manual typing, copy-paste) has not resolved it, we recommend submitting a support ticket so the team can investigate this at the account level. When submitting, it would be helpful to include:

  • Screenshots or a screen recording showing the message before sendingimmediately after sending, and after attempting to edit
  • The exact text (including any URLs) that reproduces the problem
  • Whether you are on Windows or macOS
  • Whether messages are typed manually, pasted, or both
