After digging deeper into this, I found the solution, and IT IS AN APPLE “feature” that no one seems to be fond of, including me.

    •    To turn off the virtual ring light border on your screen during video calls, you need to disable the Edge Light feature introduced in macOS Tahoe.

    •
Follow these steps while your video call is active:
    •
    •    Look at the macOS menu bar at the very top of your screen.
    •
    •    Click on the green camera / video conferencing icon that appears while Zoom or FaceTime is running.
    •
    •    Locate Edge Light in the dropdown menu.

    •    Click on Edge Light to turn it off completely (or click the arrow next to it to disable any "Automatic" toggles so it does not turn itself back on in low-light environments).

Once turned off, the illuminated border will instantly disappear from your MacBook Pro screen.
