I need to see the participants when delivering a power point training but the only way I can find to do is to show the gallery overlaid over the PP, which blocks some of the image

You might try using Presenter View or placing the Zoom gallery on a second screen if you have dual monitors. That way you can share the PowerPoint on one screen while still seeing participants on the other without blocking the slides.

You have a few good options in Zoom to see your participants while sharing a PowerPoint without blocking your slides:

Option 1: Use “Share Screen > Advanced > PowerPoint as Virtual Background”

    1. In Zoom, click Share Screen.
    2. Go to the Advanced tab.
    3. Select PowerPoint as Virtual Background.
    4. Choose your PowerPoint file.
      • Your slides will appear as your background, and your video will be overlaid in a corner.
      • You can move or resize your video so it doesn’t block important slide content.
      • Participants stay visible in your meeting window.

Option 2: Use Dual Monitors (if you have two screens)

    1. Enable dual monitors in Zoom Settings > General > Use dual monitors.
    2. Start your PowerPoint slideshow on one screen.
    3. Share that screen in Zoom.
    4. Use the second monitor to keep your Zoom Gallery View open so you can see participants.

Option 3: Adjust the shared window size
If you only have one screen, you can:

    1. Start your PowerPoint in windowed mode (not full screen).
    2. Resize the PowerPoint window so it doesn’t take up the entire screen.
    3. Keep the Zoom window beside it in Gallery View.
