how do i chat on a zoom meeting

If you don’t see the Chat button in a Zoom meeting, it’s usually because chat is disabled by the host (or by an account/group setting), you’re in a webinar with different chat rules, or you’re using a layout/client where the control is hidden.

Try these checks:

1. Make sure you’re looking in the right place

• Desktop (Windows/macOS): the Chat button is on the meeting controls toolbar (it may be under More (…) if the window is narrow).
• Mobile (iOS/Android): tap the screen to show controls, then look for More (…) > Chat.

2. Confirm you’re in a Meeting vs a Webinar

• In webinars, attendee chat behavior can be different than meetings, and the host may restrict it.

3. The host may have disabled in-meeting chat

• Hosts can turn participant chat on/off during the meeting, and chat can also be disabled at the account, group, or meeting level—this can make the chat button unavailable.

4. Update Zoom (client version can matter)

• Some chat controls/permissions require minimum client versions. Update the Zoom Workplace app and rejoin the meeting.

On my android tablet I see the chat button but it is unresponsive. Other buttons work fine. The chat is not host disabled, just unresponsive in zoom meetings. Used to work fine a few days ago. I did install latest version and reboot my tablet. I think the newer zoom version has a glitch on androids.

I just now finally got my android chat to work by downloading from the zoom website instead of the Google app store here

I had to adjust my settings to say to yes, allow from this source

I saw the chat button, but it was unresponsive. Fixed it by downloading the zoom app from the zoom webpage, not the play store. That worked..
