Hiding speaker thumbnail during screen sharing.

How do I hide the speaker's thumbnail image from those attending the meeting, while sharing a image or video etc?  This is especially needed when using the share screen alongside the speaker two images side by side) or when the speaker is superimposed onto the shared image. In these share modes there is still a floating thumbnail of the speaker on a mobile device or they appear at the top of the screen along with other participants. It looks silly having two views of the same speaker.

How do I hide the thumbnail view, when the other screen share views of the speakers are being used? 1

Hi @Alches

Currently, Zoom doesn't provide a native feature to hide the speaker's thumbnail exclusively during screen sharing sessions.

Excellent insight! You've identified a valuable opportunity for enhancement. Consider submitting a feature request.

Hope this helps - Happy to help further!!
Thank you very much and have a great one!

Make use of the - Sample Feature Request - Zoom Community

If you wish to add one.

When sharing a ppt presentation, speaker thumbnail OBSTRUCT some of the ppt slide info. The speaker can of course switch off his/her vdo which will take off the thumbnail, but there should be another feature where the host or the speaker can select to avoid the video being superimposed on the shared content.

Ditto my thoughts. And the irony is that the speaker does not even realise that their super imposed image is blocking the view of a part of their content. There needs to be an option at both ends to switch this off - if the speaker cannot be disturbed while speaking then the viewers must have the option to either switch off the super imposed thumbnail view of the speaker - or at least drag it to a corner or reduce its size in a way that the screenshare content itself is not blocked.

Yeah, this behavior can definitely feel awkward during presentations, especially when the floating speaker thumbnail overlaps the actual shared content.

One workaround that helped me in a similar setup was switching the shared content to “Portion of Screen” or using a second monitor with the speaker/video panels moved completely off the presentation area before starting the share. On desktop Zoom clients, “Hide Video Panel” can also reduce some of the clutter, although mobile participants may still see a minimized speaker thumbnail depending on their layout settings.

I’ve also noticed the issue becomes more obvious when using side-by-side mode together with active speaker view. In some cases, turning off side-by-side mode for attendees gives a cleaner presentation experience.

Curious if anyone here found a fully reliable method that works consistently across desktop + mobile viewers, because Zoom still seems to handle speaker overlays differently per device/layout mode.
