Editing closed captions on video

I have the same problem.  What am I not doing right?  Why isn't anyone answering this question?

Please view or edit transcripts in the web portal as follows: 

1. Sign in to the Zoom web portal.
2. In the navigation menu, click Recordings.
3. Click the name of the recorded meeting.
   -You will see a list of recording files.
   -Click the play icon.
4. The text of the transcript displays on the right-hand side of the video.
5. Hover over a phrase you want to edit and click the pencil icon.
   Note: If a phrase belongs to an unknown speaker, you can also hover over Unknown Speaker and click the pencil icon to edit the name.
6. Make any changes to the text, then click the check mark.
7. The updated version of the text is displayed when you play the audio or video file.

This is really important for accessibility, to be able to edit captions to better reflect the content of what was said, especially for content-specific transcriptions.

There is a feature that needs to be added by an admin called “upload custom captions” to the Recording tab, when you edit a recording. it is not there automatically.

It replaces both the auto caption and the audio transcript.

In theory, edit the audio transcript in Zoom web portal, download the edited file as a .vtt then reupload it with the “upload custom caption” button should be easy.

In practice, the audio transcipt timestamps are long and include the speaker name every line, so extra work is needed after downloading to erase repeat instances of the speaker and break up long text lines; but then the audio transcript loses the speaker name and replaces with “unknown speaker” every line where it was redundant for captions.

Win some lose some. Zoom’s solution is mediocre.
