Question

Echo

I joined a meeting and for the first time ever, experienced a horrible echo.  My phone was off; there were no other devices active in the room.  I tried both speaker types. I downloaded a new driver. I contacted Zoom support and the bot told me I had to pay for a plan to get to audio settings to cancel echoes.  I did notice upon leaving the meeting that somehow I was on as two participants - not sure how that happened; but could that have been the problem?

    Hi @Barbara Nelson,

We’re glad to have you here. Welcome to Zoom Community!

Yes, joining a Zoom meeting as two participants (for example, if you were connected on two devices or browser tabs at the same time) can definitely cause an echo. This happens because both connections pick up and transmit audio, creating a feedback loop.

To prevent this in the future:

    • Make sure you are only connected to the meeting on one device or browser tab.
    • If you notice you are listed twice, leave the meeting on all devices and rejoin on just one.

This is a common cause of echo in Zoom meetings.
