Different Recording Permissions for Admins and Members

Hi folks,

I am an admin on our Zoom Business account. We have administrator roles and normal member roles. When our members (teaching staff) deliver training on Zoom, they do a cloud recording. That link would be shared with the participants so they could watch it back online.

However the participants would have been able to download the videos, so we disabled that option using the account settings. However, from time to time, we notice that we might need to download and edit a recording if there was some issue, then we would share that recording via Youtube or Vimeo.

But in order to do that, we would have to go into account settings, enable downloads, download the video, disable the downloads again.

With Zoom and all it's complicated settings and user groups. I can't seem to find a way that I can disable downloads for regular members and participants but allow downloads for the account admins. I've tried a combination of the settings within account settings and group settings.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Hello @darthwilson

Your best way forward would be to create a group and place the admins or users in this group that you would like to have access to download recordings. Note, when it comes to the hierarchy of how settings are applied, all Account Settings are applied first, then Group Settings, then individual User Settings. So if you have certain settings enabled/disabled/locked/unlocked at the account level, those take effect prior to any Group Settings.

I would advise you look at your account level settings, and then create a specific custom group (or role) that would have access to download recordings as need be.

I hope this helps.

Thank you,
Jake

Thanks Jake, I've tried that and was really careful with the settings in account and group settings. Still can't get it to work. It's hard to articulate a way to describe it. It either lets me (admin) and all zoom members download the cloud meeting. Or else if I toggle the option, it doesn't let anyone. It won't do it for specific group members.

Hello    @darthwilson

I would need to see your process because if I create a group, and disable 'Cloud recording downloads' then anyone I place in that group doesn't have access to links to download the cloud recordings. I can also disable cloud recording sharing, but this does not apply to hosts. This is what I am able to see on my tests. You'd only have to add members into this group and not admins as the admins can follow the account settings (which can be set to allow cloud recording downloads).

If the groups are not working, I think that the next option would be to reach out to Zoom Support for further analysis and investigation. You can find out more on reaching support here: https://support.zoom.com/hc/en/contact?id=contact_us.

I hope this helps and please make sure to mark the solution as accepted if this information is what you needed.

Thank you,

Jake

Thanks @jdott16  - I tried enabling it as normal for account settings and then only having one group for our tutors with the setting off. But it still didn't work. I will reach out to support, I wish there was a way to contact you via support as you seem to know the settings very well.
