Cloud recordings when the user is deactivated

Hello,

I'm an admin of a Zoom Business account with unlimited cloud recording storage. When I deactivate a user from a Zoom Business account, what will happen to the cloud recordings associated to the user? If the recordings are not deleted, how long will they last?

(I know the recordings will be gone when I delete the user; I want to make sure about what will happen when I deactivate the user.)

Thank you.

Welcome to the Zoom Community, @khchung.

I cheated on this response by asking ZVA, Zoom’s Virtual Assistant, which gave this response, that I believe is accurate:

When you deactivate a user in your Zoom Business account, the user's cloud recordings are not deleted. Deactivation simply disables the user's ability to sign in and use Zoom services, but their data—including cloud recordings—remains stored in your account. As long as the user is deactivated (not deleted), their cloud recordings will continue to be retained and accessible by account admins or owners, depending on your account’s retention policies and permissions.

There is no automatic deletion of cloud recordings solely due to user deactivation. The recordings will remain available until you either delete the user (which will remove their recordings unless you transfer them first) or manually delete the recordings yourself. If your account has unlimited cloud storage, there is no time-based expiration for these recordings as long as the user remains deactivated and the account is active.

For more details, you can review the Zoom support article: Managing cloud recordings and Deactivating, deleting, or unlinking users.
