Chat setting

Is there a way to make Zoom breakout room chat settings such that when an individual leaves a room and reenters the room they are able to see the chat from BEFORE they were in the room?

I am not talking about continuous chat for internal organizations - these are external folks participating in an event with breakout room engagement.

Hi @Angie Fair, welcome to Zoom Community! No, currently there is no native setting in Zoom that allows an external participant who leaves and re-enters a breakout room to see the chat history that occurred while they were absent.

The best way to handle this for high-engagement events is to externalize the conversation or the record-keeping such as:

    • Providing a link e.g. Docs or Whiteboard in the main room before breakouts start and asking participants to record their notes there so it remains accessible regardless of their room status
    • Designating one person in each room or a co-host to re-paste key links or discuss prompts whenever someone reenters
    • Using “Broadcast Message to All” that’s available for the host to push critical information to everyone’s screen simultaneously
    • Giving a housekeeping tip at the start of your event to ask participants to repost any links or refer to shared docs for prompts.

    Hope this helps.

    hi @Angie Fair ,

The chat you see depends on your experience and path through a meeting.
That is why you only see the chat that you experience and the rooms that you visit,
You do not see chat in a breakout room before you join, and you only see the chat in the main room when you are there.

So, simply, the chat works by picking up the chat messages sent where you are.
Even the host's main chat, which is stored only applies to the conversation in the main room.
The hosts. Personal chat will be available whenever they visit a breakout room.

    All the best
