Cannot open document “double_click_to_convert_01.zoom”. zoom.us cannot open a file of this type.

Hi everyone, I had an important meeting but I can't open the file. I get the message “Cannot open document ‘double_click_to_convert_01.zoom’. zoom.us cannot open a file of this type.”

I tried to find a solution on the internet, and one looked good (make a new recording, pause, and move the “broken” files to a new folder, stop recording). But that didn't work. I don't know what to do anymore. I have a MAC.

Hi @Shkurrik1, thank you for posting to the Zoom Community!

What occurs wen you double click on the file to convert it?

I have this same problem.  Most of the time recording to the local computer happens without a hitch, but now and again this happens. This really needs fixing, and I don't understand why no one has helped with Shkurrik1's problem?

I have this problem again this week, and it's URGENT that I convert the file and relay it to my client. Thanks for help.

Welcome to the Zoom Community, @Adesimba

The “double_click_to_convert_01.zoom” file is a temporary file created by Zoom for local recordings that have not yet been converted to a playable video format (like MP4). If you see the message “zoom.us cannot open a file of this type,” it means the recording was not properly converted after the meeting ended.

Here’s how you can try to recover and convert the file:

  1. Locate the .zoom file:

    • Go to the folder where your Zoom recordings are saved (usually in Documents > Zoom).
  2. Open Zoom and go to the “Meetings” tab, then “Recorded.”

    • Find the meeting with the unconverted recording.
    • Click “Convert” if the option appears.
  3. If the recording does not show up in Zoom:

    • Move the .zoom file (and any related files from the same meeting) into a new empty folder.
    • Open Zoom, go to “Meetings” > “Recorded,” and click “Add a recording.”
    • Select the new folder you created with the .zoom file.
    • Zoom should attempt to convert the file.
  4. If conversion still fails:

    • Make sure you are using the same computer and user account that were used to record the meeting.
    • Ensure you have enough disk space and permissions to write files in the folder.
  5. If none of these steps work, the file may be corrupted or incomplete, and recovery may not be possible.
