Question

Cannot hide settings window

Zoom Workplace, up to date version. If I open settings window, it stays atop of all other windows making use of other apps impossible.

When I tap on View More Settings, a browser opens and... I can't use it, because the original Settings window blocks me from it.

What is the sacred logic that I am unable to understand, is behind this?

Hi @woifhwo3hffow3, thank you for posting to the Zoom Community!

There’s no deep mystery or sacred logic behind it! You can just close the settings window after you click “View More Settings.” Once it’s out of the way, your browser will be fully accessible.

The way Zoom forces its Settings window to stay on top, even when opening browser-based options, feels like the same outdated UX logic you’d expect from searching a cracker barrel menu with prices and pictures in 2009. Totally breaks workflow.

That “always on top” behavior in Zoom settings is honestly terrible UX. The Settings window is being treated like a modal dialog, so Zoom forces it to stay above other windows until you close it — even when it opens browser-based settings that you’re supposed to interact with separately.

A few workarounds:

  • Press Esc or close the Settings window after clicking “View More Settings.”

  • Use Alt + Tab to switch to the browser window.

  • On Windows, try disabling “Always on Top” utilities if you use apps like PowerToys.

  • If it keeps happening, try reinstalling Zoom Workplace or switching between the Microsoft Store and standalone desktop version.

You’re not missing any sacred logic here — it’s just a poorly designed settings flow.
