Question

Can't Disable Autoframing

I have searched and cannot the answer.

I have auto-framing disabled in my settings. I have it disabled in the meetings. And still the camera moves all the time.

I have a HP Omnibook X Flip Laptop, Windows 11, Zoom 7.2.1

    Hi @Rachel H,

Thank you for the detailed information, and for confirming that auto-framing is already disabled both in Zoom's general settings and within the meeting controls. Since the setting is off on Zoom's side and the movement is still happening, it's likely that another layer on the device — rather than Zoom itself — is applying the reframing. On this laptop model, it also tends to be a digital reframing effect rather than the physical camera moving.

Here are a few things to try, in order:

    1. Isolate the source first Open the Windows Camera app and record a short clip while moving slightly left and right.

    • If the image stays still there but moves in Zoom, the cause is on Zoom's side or a camera integration.

    • If it moves in the Camera app too, the cause is most likely HP Presence or Windows Studio Effects, not Zoom.

This step will help us pinpoint exactly where to focus next, so if you're able to run it first, that would be very helpful.

    2. Check HP Presence (myHP) HP laptops can apply camera effects before the video ever reaches Zoom:

    • Open myHP → Video control → HP Presence

    • Select the built-in camera

    • Turn off face framing/auto-framing if there's a direct toggle

    • If only framing options like Wide, Portrait, or Tight are shown, select Wide and disable any multi-person face framing option

    • Close HP Presence completely and restart Zoom

    3. Turn off Windows Studio Effects Windows 11 can apply automatic framing independently of Zoom:

    • Open Windows Studio Effects and turn off Automatic framing

    • Also check Windows Quick Settings (click the network/speaker/battery icons in the taskbar) → Studio Effects, and confirm it's off there too

    • Select Reset Effects if needed

    4. Confirm the correct camera is selected in Zoom Go to Zoom → Settings → Video and check the camera dropdown. If there's an entry labeled "HP Presence Camera" in addition to the built-in camera, try selecting the standard built-in camera instead, since the HP Presence entry can apply its own framing.

    5. Update everything After testing the above:

    • Restart Windows

    • Update Zoom (you're currently on 7.2.1 — if a newer version is available, please update)

    • Run Windows Update

    • Open myHP or HP Support Assistant and install any available camera, chipset, graphics, BIOS, or firmware updates

I want to be upfront that these are recommended troubleshooting steps rather than a guaranteed fix, I recommend if the issue persists please raise a ticket with our Support Team using this link.

    Hope this help!
