Breakout Room Transcripts Not Appearing After Meeting

Hi everyone,

I'm running into an issue with Zoom meeting transcripts and was wondering if anyone else has experienced the same thing.

During my meetings, I use breakout rooms, and participants spend a good amount of time discussing topics there. After the meeting ends, I receive the meeting transcript, but it only includes the conversation from the main room. None of the discussions that happened inside the breakout rooms appear in the transcript.

I was expecting the breakout room conversations to be included as well, especially since those discussions are an important part of the meeting.

Has anyone found a way to capture or generate transcripts for breakout rooms? Is there a setting I might be missing, or is this simply not supported by Zoom at the moment?

I'd really appreciate any clarification or suggestions from anyone who has dealt with this.

Thanks in advance!

Hi @Annie warner

Zoom’s current transcription system does not capture breakout room discussions. The live transcription and saved transcript features only apply to the main meeting session, so any conversations that occur inside breakout rooms are excluded from the generated transcript. This is a platform limitation rather than a configuration issue—there is no setting you can enable to change this behavior at the moment.

Why It Happens

  • Cloud recordings and automatic live transcription only operate in the main room.
  • Breakout rooms can display captions, but the option to save or generate transcripts there is unavailable.
  • This affects both cloud recordings and AI-generated transcripts.

Workarounds

  1. Use local recordings:
Allow participants to record their breakout sessions locally. Local recordings can capture breakout room audio and video if the host grants permission.

  2. Assign a co-host or participant to record:
Give recording rights to someone in each breakout room to ensure discussions are captured.

  3. Use third-party transcription tools:
Services like Otter.ai or similar can transcribe breakout room audio if participants upload recordings afterward.

  4. Manual note-taking:
Have participants summarize key points from their breakout discussions and share them in the main session.

Upcoming Fix

A Zoom update expected in mid to late July 2026 is planned to restore or enable transcript saving in breakout rooms. Until that release, the above workarounds are your best options.

Hope this helps!
