If I, as the owner of the account, schedule a weekly Zoom meeting and share the 'invite' URL and codes with 3 other folks, can they automatically join and begin a discussion or do I have to be there first to admit them?

Welcome to the Zoom Community, @dleeper47.

This is possible by using a set of options when scheduling a meeting (or a recurring meeting with a fixed intervals elected):

You will need to do the following:

  • Ensure that Passcode is enabled, and send the Join URL with the Passcode encoded on it (otherwise they will have to enter it manually when joining)
  • Waiting Room must be disabled for this to work!
  • Allow participants to join before start time must be enabled, and I recommend not using the anytime option, since that means anyone with the link can join it literally any time.  Other options are shown here:

I highly recommend a thorough reading of this Zoom Support article, especially the notes at the bottom:

https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/202828525-Allow-participants-to-join-before-host

Note especially that the Host controls are not available to the "early attendees".

If these individuals are on the same account as you and are Licensed users, alternatively you could enter them as Alternate Hosts.

See this Zoom Support article for details and capabilities of using Alt Hosts:
