Audio Sharing from Apple Music

Hi, I teach a zoom movement class using a lapel mic and Apple music. I share audio coming from my macbook to which I have speakers attached. I used to be able to set the music volume for the meeting as separate from my system and ext. speaker volume and now I can’t. I need the music louder in my space (coming out of my speakers) so I can talk over it and still hear the beat for my movements.

Now, my previous settings are not working. The volume that allows the meeting participants to hear me is the same as my speaker volume and I cannot make my speaker volume any louder. Macbook and zoom are up to date. I select Share Advanced, Audio Stereo, then play the playlist, and set the volume at 2 bars which is now too quiet for me to hear with my speaker turned up all the way. If I raise the system volume to 3 bars, the participants can’t hear me over the music. Apple music has an audio setting and that is all the way up. Most of the discussions I have found suggest using original sound, but that does not work for sharing from my computer playlist. Plus, my setup worked for several years. Sometimes after updates I find some things that need to be reset, but can’t figure anything out to make it work properly now. I hope this makes sense and someone can offer me advice. Thank you.

I figured it out! Audio sharing of music can only be tested with participants in the meeting. I used to be able to do a sound check on my own, but no longer. When there are participants present and you are sharing audio, there is a menu bar at the top of my screen with a sound icon. There I can select “headphones” (which is my external speakers plugged into the jack) and choose my volume for the music so I can hear the beat, and then select “zoom audio device” which sets the volume for participants.

    Hello @ENM,

Welcome to the Zoom Community! We’re glad to have you here.

Go to Zoom > Preferences > Audio.

Make sure “Suppress background noise” is set to “Low” or “Original Sound for Musicians” is enabled if you want less processing on your mic.

When sharing, use “Share Sound” and adjust the volume slider in the share window.

Let me know if it helps or if you need further assistance.

I do have background noise on low. Isn’t Original sound for live music in my space? I am sharing music through Apple music. Anyway, that setting yields very poor results. I don’t want less processing on my mic. I want my speaker volume to be louder than the music for the meeting participants. Anything else to suggest? I don’t see a separate volume slider in the meeting that is separate from my system. Where is that?

Are you using the “share sound” feature? In the same place you share screens.

I just tested this from my Mac desktop to my iPhone and it works for me and sounds clean.

Sorry, I reread your post and see you are doing it this way.  I am on version 6.7.2.72191 MacOs and can compare some settings with you if you want.

I did try to control the volume in Apple Music and listen as a participant and it changed and sounded good.  Maybe you have an input gain adjustment for your lapel microphone?

I usually use this to share. Is there a difference with using the other share method? I still don’t see a way to separate my system settings for my speaker vs. the zoom meeting. The volumes go together which they didn’t use to do.
