Are Meeting Passcodes still mandatory for Basic accounts in 2026?
I’m the Owner and only admin/user of an individual Zoom Workplace Basic account. Under Account Management > Account Settings > Meeting > Security, Meeting Passcode and PMI Passcode are locked ON at the account level. Waiting Room is also enabled.
I understand Zoom requires meetings to have a security option. However, current Zoom documentation says this requirement can be satisfied by Passcode, Waiting Room, or Only authenticated users can join.
I searched the Community before posting and found several older threads describing this exact issue. In one, a Community Manager referenced Zoom's May 2020 policy requiring passcodes. In another, a Community Super Champion created a new Basic account and reproduced the locked-passcode behavior, but specifically stated that he could not find documentation saying Basic users must have a passcode and therefore assumed it had become a Basic-account requirement.
My portal currently says: “Per new security guidelines, you cannot change this setting. Please contact Zoom Support for more information.”
I contacted Zoom's Virtual Agent, but it could not identify current documentation explaining why Meeting Passcode is mandatory when Waiting Room is already enabled. My Basic account is also not eligible to open a Support case. I have submitted both Feedback and a Problem Report.
Can a Zoom employee please confirm whether Meeting Passcode is currently mandatory for all Basic accounts in 2026, even when Waiting Room is enabled?
If yes, could you please provide the current Zoom documentation establishing that requirement? If no, why are Meeting Passcode and PMI Passcode locked ON at the account-owner level, and how can the restriction be removed?
I’m specifically looking for the current policy, rather than instructions to change the setting under Account Management, since I am already at the account-owner Account Settings level and those controls are locked.
