"Pourquoi mon enregistrement local conserve-t-il une colonne noire d'environ 20 % avec mon nom alors que la vidéo est coupée et que l'option 'Placez la vidéo à côté de l'écran partagé dans l'enregistrement' est décochée ?"

    Hi @Gérard Verret,

We’re glad to have you here. That black column is usually caused by the aspect ratio/layout of what was captured, not by the “Place video next to shared screen in the recording” toggle.

    Common causes and fixes:

    1. You shared a window that isn’t the same aspect ratio as the recording canvas
    • If the shared content doesn’t fill the capture area (for example, a tall/narrow app window), the recording can add black bars/unused space on the sides.
    • Fix: share the entire screen instead of a single window, or resize the shared window to a standard 16:9 shape before you start sharing/recording.
    1. The “name” strip is coming from the in-meeting video/thumbnail overlay being included in the capture
    • Even with “Place video next to shared screen…” unchecked, local recording can still capture a layout that includes a thumbnail/name area depending on what view you were in during screen share.
    • Fix: while sharing, switch your meeting view to Standard (not side-by-side), and minimize/hide the video panel if it’s visible.

    Thank you for your reply.

I understand your explanation, but I do not think it matches my situation.

The grey background around the text is already part of my image design. The image itself is not a small picture displayed inside a larger empty window.

What puzzles me is that the black area visible in the recording contains my name ("Gérard Verret"). This makes me think that the black column is related to Zoom's participant/layout display rather than to the aspect ratio of the shared image.

I have already disabled the option "Place video next to the shared screen in the recording", but the black column still appears in the final video.

I will nevertheless test sharing the entire screen instead of a single image window.

Do you think the presence of my name inside the black column could indicate that Zoom is still reserving space for the host/participant layout during recording?

This usually happens when the recording layout or capture region is still reserving space for the presenter panel, even if the option is unchecked. Try reselecting the screen area or resetting the recording layout settings before recording again. It can also help to check if any previous session layout presets are being reused automatically.

Thank you for your help and for taking the time to look into this.

Your latest explanation seems much closer to what I am experiencing. The idea that Zoom may still be reserving space for a presenter panel or reusing a previous layout setting is very helpful.

I will continue testing when I have a bit more time and will report back if I find the cause.

    Many thanks for your support
