Accessing recordings when deciding whether to recover a recording

Periodically, I receive a notification “ You have [x] recordings that will be permanently deleted on 2026-xx-xx. Click the link below to view files that will be deleted soon. You can restore any files you want to keep before deletion.

When I click on the link to the list of recordings that will be deleted unless I “recover” them, there does not appear to be an easy way to view the recording (so that I can decide whether to recover it or let it be deleted). What am I overlooking?

Hi there RJL 👋

That notification means your cloud recordings are scheduled for permanent deletion based on your account’s recording retention policy. When you click the link in the email, you’re taken to the Trash section of your Cloud Recordings page — this is where recordings remain for up to 30 days before being permanently deleted.

Currently, recordings in the Trash cannot be previewed or played back directly. To review a recording before deciding whether to keep it, you’ll need to restore it first:

  1. Go to Recordings in the Zoom web portal.
  2. Click the Trash tab.
  3. Find the recording you want to review.
  4. Click Recover to restore it.
  5. Once restored, it will reappear under your Cloud Recordings tab, where you can view or download it.
  6. If you decide you don’t need it, you can delete it again later.

If you’d like to avoid this process in the future, your admin can adjust the retention period under Account Settings → Recording → Cloud Recording → Auto delete cloud recordings after a specified number of days.
