Why has the Docs markdown export feature disappeared?

Hi folks…

I tried the Zoom AI features a few days ago, and was impressed by the transcript and summary.  I then downloaded and shared the MD files (date was 2026-04-16).

I tried to do the same thing today, but now there’s no way of exporting the files.

What happened? 🤷‍♂️

Same experience and problem here. It seems to have been removed in a recent update? It feels like a downgrade… Very strange move when Markdown Docs are critical to automation workflows and AI.
A more cynical person might see this as an intentional hamstring/blocker against using non-Zoom AI - but I’m an optimist!

@CoachKidd - Obviously we can copy-pasta, but there’s also Webpage-to-Markdown extensions for your browser you can use to convert the note from your webpage view as a ‘temporary’ workaround. 😅

Obvs, but misses the point, dontchya think?

Either it’s a feature that’s been toggled off, or Zoom are trying to lock us in to their Docs, in a play for world domination.

@zoom :

  1. I don’t need another location for my transcriptions, so just switch the feature back on, please.
  2. Alternatively, we’ll switch back to using Fathom which is free and provides the same services AND does output to MD.
  3. MD is important to those of us who want to remain vendor agnostic with our content - see https://obsidian.md for details as to why this should matter.  And if you’re still unclear, hop over to https://www.anthropic.com and see how much better Claude is when you’re able to persist context in a unified way.
  4. If you’re making a play for the M$ Teams space, please don’t.  They suck at it and so will you.  And they have the whole of the SharePoint integration on their side for a document store, and they’ve over-engineered that.
  5. So, please just stick to what you’re good at - comms - and be happy with that.

Hi @CoachKidd

To download Zoom MD files, you would need to update your Zoom Workplace to the latest version. Once updated, you may locate the option to export by accessing the document, then click on the 3 dots on the upper right portion of the document, scroll down to the bottom to see the export option, and then hit Markdown (.md).

I hope this helps.

Define “latest version” please.

“You are on the latest version 7.0.0.77593”

It was a feature toggle issue.  It appears Zoom ‘released’ the feature when it shouldn’t have been, perhaps for a spot of ‘Beta’ testing… 🤷‍♂️ who knows?

And then toggled it off.

Anyhoo, thankfully, it’s now been ‘released’ again.  And I, for one, hope it stays ‘released’, as I find it helpful.

You’re not alone this looks like a recent change or UI update. Zoom tends to move or tweak AI features pretty often, so the export option may have been relocated or limited. Might be worth checking settings/permissions or if it’s tied to a specific plan now.

Yes, you’re right! Now the MD export option has returned. 🙃 Thanks for the ride, Zoom and friends!
