Restoring an edited recording

I wanted to trim the last three minutes of a Zoom cloud recording. I thought I was supposed to mark the part of the recording to “Trim”, instead I only have remaining those 3 minutes that I didn’t want. I looked for guidance and could only find advice that I was supposed to return to the video and click on “restore”  there is no such option. I have now lost the entire recording except for the part i don’t want! How do i get it back?

Hello, @Margaret Yonco-Haines! Great to have you here in the Zoom community. Welcome!

I’m sorry this happened. I can understand how frustrating it is to find that only the part you didn't want is left. If the recording was only trimmed, you should be able to restore the original recording by following these steps:

  1. Go to your Cloud Recordings list.
  2. Click the meeting topic for the recording you want to restore.
  3. Click the recording thumbnail to open the recording.
  4. Below the recording playback, click Restore.
  5. In the confirmation window, click Restore again.

Note: Restoring the original recording will permanently remove the trimmed version.

If you don't see the Restore option, here are a couple of things to check:

  • Check your Trash to see if the recording was accidentally deleted instead of trimmed.
  • If the recording is not in Trash and the Restore option is still unavailable, please submit a request to Zoom Support so they can investigate your recording and determine whether it can be recovered:

If possible, include the meeting ID, meeting date, and the affected recording name when contacting support, as this will help them investigate more quickly.

Thank you - the “restore” took a while to appear but I finally was able to recover. Possibly clearer instructions on the Zoom site would avoid this. I can’t remember the exact word but when you put the cursor on the ribbon along the bottom it says something that indicates that it the portion deleted or trimmed, instead of clearly marking it as the portion retained. Thank you again for your help.
