Zoom Chat "Unable to join" error

I am inviting external users to a channel and they receive the invite in their email. They accept the invite, it reflects that they joined completely fine on my end with the channel message telling me so.

However, at least on Android from what I can currently reproduce, they will see the channel come up under the “All” tab in Chat, and then when tapped, it will say “Unable to join” and disappear. They can tap “Channels” and it works fine there. 

If someone that is currently in the channel messages anything, it will then reappear in “All” and function completely fine.

Does anyone else experience this? I’ve tested myself across multiple accounts and different ways of adding and reinstalling the app on Android.

Tested device info: Android 16, Zoom v7.0.5.

Yes, I've seen similar behavior with external channel members on Android. It appears the invitation and membership are processed correctly on the backend, but the mobile app doesn't always refresh the channel state immediately in the "All" chat view.

The fact that the channel works under the "Channels" tab and starts working in "All" after someone posts a message makes it sound like a synchronization or caching issue rather than a permissions problem.

A few things worth checking:

  • Have the affected users manually refresh Chat after accepting the invite.

  • Test with the latest Zoom app version when available, as Android chat-related bugs are often fixed in minor releases.

  • Compare behavior on iOS and desktop clients to determine whether it's Android-specific.

  • Ask affected users to sign out and back in if the channel never appears correctly.

Since you've reproduced it across multiple accounts and fresh installs, I'd lean toward this being a bug in the Android client rather than a configuration issue. If others can reproduce it on Android 16 and v7.0.5, it would be helpful to submit a bug report to Zoom with the exact steps you've documented.
