how do i disable the spelling and grammar checking in the latest version of Zoom workplace chat? I do not have any OS settings enabled and I have even gone so far as to disable spell checking and grammar checking in MS Edge, Brave and via GPO and yet it still persists in Zoom. There are no Zoom settings available to turn it off

edit: spelling

    Hi Emm Ess,

Thanks for reaching out. I understand you’d like to disable spelling and grammar checking in Zoom Workplace Chat.

    Here’s how this currently works:

    1. On macOS:
Zoom includes its own Spelling and Grammar setting that controls spell check and auto‑correction within chat.

      • Go to Zoom Workplace → Settings → Team Chat (or the relevant tab).
      • Look for the Spelling and Grammar option and uncheck it to disable spell and grammar checking 1.
    2. On Windows or Linux:
At this time, Zoom does not provide an in‑app option to disable spelling or grammar checking 1.

      • OS‑level, browser, or Group Policy settings do not affect Zoom’s internal text input system, so disabling them externally will not stop spell checking in Zoom 1.
      • There is no available toggle in the Zoom Workplace app for these platforms.
    3. Workarounds:

      • If the spell check is distracting, you can compose messages in an external editor (like Notepad or TextEdit) and paste them into Zoom Chat.
      • Alternatively, you can submit feedback to Zoom requesting a Windows/Linux toggle for this feature.

Unfortunately, it turning off the Zoom spell check does not work on Mac. I switched the toggles off in settings, and still get this annoying suggestions, which highlight words that are perfectly correct in Polish and suggest some English words instead. Is there any other way to permanently turn this feature off?

Thanks Trish for the quick response.

How exactly does something like this make it past UAT or QA? Does the entire Zoom organisation only use Mac’s?

I can tell you now there are more Windows and Linux users in the world so this slight oversite is a huge kick in the teeth along with some really questionable UI changes.

Anyhoo - Telling me the only work around is to use a 3rd party app and then copy/paste into your app doesnt fix the problem or even make sense. Then telling me that I NEED to request it as a feature request is somehow ok when almost all text editors have a spelling check toggle is quite tone deaf because once I paste it into Zoom, it does exactly the same thing. American English is not the default language of the world and some of us communicate in more than one language.

Thank you for time and response, have a great day.

Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback. I completely understand how frustrating this experience has been, and I truly appreciate you calling out these concerns so we can address them properly.

On spell‑check for Windows and Linux:
You’re absolutely right that this is a key feature for many users. At present, automatic spell‑check is fully supported on macOS, while Windows and Linux rely on system‑level or browser‑based spell‑check tools. We recognize this gap and have already shared this feedback with our Desktop Product and Language teams to prioritize broader platform support.

Your feedback helps us improve across all platforms, and I’ve logged your comments directly with our product teams. Thank you again for your patience and for helping us make Zoom better for everyone.

    Hi,

As far as I know, the latest versions of Zoom Workplace Chat don't currently provide a user-facing setting to disable spell checking or grammar suggestions. If you've already disabled spelling and grammar checks at the operating system level, in Edge, Brave, and via Group Policy, then the behavior you're seeing is likely coming from Zoom's own built-in text editor rather than the browser or OS.

A few things you could try:

    • Check whether the issue occurs in both the desktop app and the web version of Zoom Workplace.

    • Test with a different Zoom account or on another machine to confirm it's not a profile-specific setting.

    • Review any AI Companion or writing assistance features that may have been enabled by your organization.

    • Submit feedback to Zoom, as there appear to be no exposed settings to disable spell/grammar checking at this time.

If anyone has found a registry key, configuration file setting, or admin policy that disables these checks, I'd be interested in hearing about it as well. Based on what you've described, it sounds more like a missing feature than a misconfiguration on your end.

    Hi Annie,

Thanks a lot for your reply. In my desktop Zoom session I can toggle spell checking on and off. I've toggled it off everywhere: in Zoom, on MacOS and even on a different Zoom account. I'm still getting perfectly correct Polish words corrected. I tested it on the web version and it doesn't have spell checking in the chat or settings.
