Zero touch provisioning with Poly E220 and E450

Setting up a new customer, and they have purchased E220 and #450 phones.  I've not worked with Polycom before.

We were trying a test to get one set up, and could not get Zero Touch provisioning to work.  Tried to find a video on it, to see what it should look like, but really cannot find anything.  The only threads I've found seem to indicate that ZTP is a big problem on Polycom.

Has anyone had any experience with the E220 and E450 phones with ZTP?

Hello @cliffm,

Welcome to the Zoom Community! We're glad to have you here.

Here’s a step-by-step overview for Zero Touch Provisioning with Poly (HP Poly Edge) phones on Zoom Phone:

  1. Make sure the phone is supported: Both the E220 and E450 are supported for Zoom Phone.
  2. Add the phone’s MAC address to your Zoom Phone admin portal under Phone System Management > Phones & Devices > Add.
  3. Assign the device to a user or common area.
  4. Connect the phone to the network. It should reach out to the Poly ZTP server and then to Zoom’s provisioning server automatically.
  5. The phone will download its configuration and register with Zoom Phone.

If ZTP is not working:

  • Double-check that the MAC address is entered correctly in Zoom.
  • Ensure the phone is factory reset before starting.
  • Make sure the phone has internet access and can reach Poly’s ZTP servers (no firewall or network restrictions).
  • Sometimes, you may need to manually reboot the phone after assigning it in Zoom.

If ZTP still fails, you can manually provision the phone:

  • Get the provisioning URL from the Zoom Phone admin portal.
  • Access the phone’s web interface (find its IP address, log in as admin).
  • Enter the provisioning URL in the appropriate field and reboot the phone.

For more detailed instructions, you can refer to the official Zoom support article: Provisioning Poly phones for Zoom Phone.

hi @cliffm

I have provisioned hundreds of Poly desk phones including Poly Edge E series.

The usual problem related to used desk phones that are still assigned to another service provider.  The prior provider still has to phone registered to that provider and iits provisioning server.  The previous provider needs to release the phone.

The second problem is that you have not added the device to Zoom Phone BEFORE connecting the phone to the Internet.  When you add the device (Poly desk phone) to Zoom Phone, Zoom adds the MAC address on Poly's ZTP server.  When you connect the phone to the Internet, the phone calls home to Poly.  If the phone's MAC address is assigned to Zoom, Poly tells the phone to contact Zoom for provisioning.  In turn, Zoom Phone provisions the phone and updates firmware if required.  Once Zoom finishes the ZTP, the phone comes up and is ready to make and receive calls.

Here is the poly ztp guide which shows required ports and protocols.  you need to permit access through your firewall to the ztp.polycom.com TCP 443 Zero Touch Provisioning HTTPS TLS 1.2 Provisioning.

All Poly Edge E series desk phones plus many other Poly desk are supported for ZTP by Poly.

ZTP for Poly works very well, but in case you might need assisted provisioning, here is the support article.
