zoom freezes when stopping screen sharing on linux

I am running the latest zoom (6.2.5.2440) on the latest Debian (sid; using Wayland). This has been working fine, but recently when I *stop* sharing my screen (either the whole screen or one window), zoom freezes - immediately, when I click "stop share". The connection remains for some time - I can talk to the other person, and they can see my video (but my shared screen is frozen) - but after a few minutes zoom completely freezes. I have to manually kill zoom. I haven't figured out how to get any error messages out of it either.

This basically makes zoom unusable for me. Luckily, I'm not teaching a class right now.

Any suggestions how to debug this? Is this an issue that the developers are aware of?

I have exactly the same Problem on Arch linux with KDE and Wayland

Same issue on Fedora 40 I had the exact symptoms of OP. I grabbed the latest version (2440) and did a full reinstall with a download from the site and not the fedora app store (more recent on site than repos in fedora) not keeping any settings and it appears to work fine now when stopping screen sharing

I had this same issue using Fedora 40 with the default gnome + wayland desktop, and Zoom installed from Flathub. It's working correctly using the version downloaded from zoom.us/download

If anyone from Zoom is reading this, it would be helpful if Zoom could provide an official Flatpak release, as this is the preferred way for many users to install software, and many people will end up using the broken version that's currently available.

I tried doing a full re-install (ie first `rm -rf ~/.zoom; apt-get purge zoom`) and that did not help, although it did make it so I got error messages to the console for some reason; so, log file attached (as .pdf, as .txt not allowed). I also tried doing

I also tried doing as above and installing 6.2.5.2440; again, same problem.

Exactly the same issue, Fedora 41 and latest rpm downloaded from ZOOM directly. I did manage to find a workaround, which was to logout from Fedora. Then, before signing back in to Fedora, I changed from GNOME to GNOME ON XORG . Then after logging in I had no issues screen sharing. Note: I also had tried the pipewire setting in screen sharing/advanced before changing to xorg, but it made no difference. Only changing to Xorg helped.

Can confirm same issue. It was working fine with Fedora 40 on Gnome and screen share but this morning (first time I've used Zoom since updating to Fedora 41) the meeting crashed when I tried to stop screen share and I also lost the recording - luckily it wasn't a long or important meeting where the recording would've been helpful. I tried every permutation of share (auto, pipe,etc) and share one screen and desktop - all with the same end result.

I took your advice and tried logging using Xorg and had no issues. Thanks for sharing this workaround. Hoping that this persistent issue can be fixed some time.

I am not too sure on Ubuntu nowadays, but have you tried changing to  Ubuntu on xorg? There should be a small cog in the bottom right corner of the screen where you can change to this before logging in. I can only suggest you try that, or look up how to change your Ubuntu to dispaly using xorg as opposed to wayland. Good luck!

After upgrading to Fedora 41, screen sharing on the Flatpak version seems to be working for me now. The RPM version won't launch anymore though.

Thanks. I'll have to try it - otherwise I'll be logging in via Xorg whenever I need a meeting on Zoom  to record/screenshare

Thanks for pointing that out - I'll try to use a Flatpak version instead of the RPM one I'm currently using.

It's a bit of a shame though, given how Flatpaks also come with their tradeoffs that I really don't like to deal with, and are usually so much heavier both on RAM and disk usage.

I have tested the Flatpak version , and I can confirm that Zoom 6.2.6.2503 is not hanging in the Flatpak setup when the screen is shared and later it is stopped.

On the other hand, I cannot select what to share yet, despite I selected I wanted to share a window (i.e. it is sharing the whole desktop).

I've just upgraded to the latest zoom (6.2.10.4983) and this seems to have been fixed (finally). Thanks! I'm glad I won't have to figure out a different platform for the class I'll be teaching soon - I probably would have been forced to use Teams <shudder>.

(Note: I haven't updated anything else since filing this bug, so the fix does seem to be with Zoom.)
