How do I host a private meeting as is it were a regular skype session. I would like to call my brother and zoom with him, is that possible w/o purchasing a phone number or paying anything?

Welcome to the Zoom Community, @KCole1136.

If you have a Zoom account, just send your brother a link and have a face to face Meeting. There’s no specific magic to having a 2 person meeting. 

If he’s unable or unwilling to meet that way, you can still schedule it likes meeting and give him the information for joining by phone. You’d still join the Zoom meeting, he’d dial in using the Join By Phone instructions.
