static on laptop audio

i am using a laptop for zoom meetings. when i am unmuted there is a constant static noise

Hey @islanddale, do you mind sending a screenshot of your Audio Settings from the client settings? Have you tried using the 'same as system' speaker and microphone option to see if that helps? Do you have any of the 'Music and Professional Audio' options selected? Also, have you experienced this in any other application?

I had that "opportunity" with one of the 5 laptops I use for ZOOM.  I discovered that it was the cooling fan going bad.  The mechanical connection with the microphone through the laptop chassis was carrying the sound.  I plugged in an external microphone and the problem went away.  No more audio problem.  Now I have to replace the fan.
