speaker WORKS to test mic but FAILS other time

When I use the "test speaker and microphone" option from within zoom the speaker test fails BUT the microphone test works and I can hear the microphone playback through the speakers. Speakers work for other apps and tests on the laptop which is less than 3 years old.

Zoom has worked fine for me with the windows desktop app for 2+ years. I was testing some headphones today in the 1/4" port and when I took them out the speakers no longer work properly in the zoom desktop app.

I've tried uninstalling the app

Correct speaker is selected (system speakers built into laptop)

Speakers tested and work both through system setting and also if I launch a zoom meeting from the web client

Sound is not muted or turned down

Greatly appreciate any assistance.

Exactly the same problem with speaker test fails BUT the microphone test works and I can hear the microphone playback through my laptop speakers. Same thing happens when using my wired Jabra headset. The best I can get when doing the speaker test is a short "boop" at the start of the test.

I'm using an ASUS Zenbook with Windows 11. ZOOM is basically useless to me on this laptop.

Same issue - that article didn't help at all.
Zoom calls work as expected however (I can hear people)

I am using a Logitech webcam for video and mic - the speakers are out through a docking station to amplified speakers - "same as system"

Since you can hear people in Zoom meetings, your audio output is working correctly for real calls. The issue with the Zoom speaker test (failing or only giving a "boop") is a known quirk, especially with docking stations and external speakers.

Key points:

If you hear others in meetings, your Zoom audio is set up properly.
The speaker test in Zoom sometimes does not play correctly with certain hardware, but this does not affect actual meeting audio.
Hearing your mic playback through your speakers during the mic test confirms your output device is working.

You can safely ignore the speaker test issue as long as you can hear people in real meetings. If you ever have trouble during a meeting, you can quickly switch your speaker device in Zoom’s audio settings or unplug/replug your docking station.

Also note that when create a meeting - and through that window dialog choose to test video/audio - the speaker works fine.
