"Camera off" icon remains oncreen even though camera is on and participants can see me

For the first time, I was recording a Zoom conference in which I was not the host. The host granted permission. 

My camera was on and the participants in the call could see me.

The "camera off" icon displayed and nothing could remove it from the screen. It's visible in the recording.

How do I make that icon disappear when the camera is on?
