help, I can't get into meetings any more - updates

when I try to get into a meeting - including a test meeting - I get a message to say I need to update to 5.8.6 or higher. So I download the update  (for Linux ubuntu) and nothing happens. I've gone round and round in circles doing this for at least a dozen times and I no longer know what to do any more. I'd love someone to help please.

if it said that use your search engine to search: "how do i uptate zoom on my *whatever your device is*" and click on the link for zoom and there are intrucions and now it will uptate
