I recently have been having issues with Zoom meeting attendees, specifically those using their phones, having very poor sound quality. I encourage people to update their app, but not sure what to do beyond that. These people are usually not very tech savvy and have limited trouble shooting ability. The issue doesn't seem to affect those using laptops.

As an audio and broadcast engineer I can tell you that computer audio can be very complicated. If they dialed-in then their audio bandwidth is limited by the phone system. If their mouth is far from the phone mic then echo cancellation may break up the audio. If they are using the Zoom app on the phone there will be better sound quality. If they turn on speaker phone and are not close the the mic echo cancellation will come into play. If they fail to have the recent update eventually they will not be able to join.
