Zoom audio suddenly choppy and unusable on desktop but fine with phone

started this week out of nowhere, no changes in my gear and I have all top of the line Mac laptop. downloaded latest zoom and reinstalled and doesn't fix it and I have an extremely fast hard wired connection. video is fine but all incoming audio is garbage.

so it's the speaker built into my computer screen causing the issue somehow?! when I have that set as the speaker it is garbage and it's the one I want to use but that speaker is fine and I use it for everything else, it's just freaking out when sent directly through as the speaker via zoom so it seems to be a software issue with my hardware?
