Zoom Automatically Assigning Participants as Interpreters

Hi,

Has anyone experienced an issue with Zoom Meetings where random participants are being automatically assigned as interpreters once the interpretation feature is started?

The two interpreters that were assigned show as interpreters in the participant list, but also two other random participants were showing as interpreters in the participant list (but not the "Manage Interpreters" list, strangely, so we couldn't remove them). We were able to fix the issue by folks out and log back in and then re-starting the interpretation.

One of our interpreters mentioned that this also happened at an earlier meeting that they were interpreting for.

Thanks in advance!

It is not clear how you have everything configured. It sounds like they were preassigned in the web portal.

We enabled language interpretation for the Zoom Meeting in the web portal but did not pre-assign interpreters in the web portal. Interpreters register for the event like other participants, though we are provided their names ahead of time so that we know who to admit into the meeting early for tech set up.

We manually assign interpreters after they join the Zoom Meeting because they often join from two different devices/accounts, or a different email address. Joining from two separate devices/accounts allows them to more easily provide consecutive interpretation while in the original meeting space (ex: when they are providing instructions to participants on how to use the interpretation feature) and then provide simultaneous interpretation from English to Spanish in the Spanish language channel once the actual meeting dialogue begins.

Hi,

The interpretation feature was enabled for the Zoom Meeting in the web portal but we did not pre-assign interpreters in the web portal. We prefer to manually assign interpreters after they join the Zoom Meeting because sometimes they join from two different accounts to allow for both English to Spanish and Spanish to English interpretation.
