Why can't I disable the waiting room once I'm inside a meeting?

Why can't I disable the waiting room once I'm inside a meeting? Previously, I used the waiting room only at the start of the meeting, and once it began, I would go to participants, more, and I could disable it. Now, this option appears in a lighter gray and doesn't allow me to change it.

did you ever figure this out? I'm having this issue too and it is sooooo frustrating. I can't be monitoring the meeting once I'm teaching.
