Virtual backgound was perfectly visible during meeting but was absent from the recording of the meet

I always use a virtual background for meetings. I also record the meeting and all is well. Today I used one as usual for the meeting and it worked perfectly live. However, in the recording there is no virtual background at all. It's the first time this has happened. Can anyone advise what went wrong or how to avoid it happening again?
