Using Zoom to Record Stories of Individuals

Hello!

I'd like to conduct a research survey using Qualtrics and Zoom. First, people would complete the Qualtrics survey. At the end of the Qualtrics survey, I would like each participant (roughly 50-60 people over a 2—to 3-month period) to click on a link to join Zoom and record a short story related to their survey responses by themselves (no researcher present).

Participants would be on their own with no risk of another person joining. The Zoom room would be available if and when people choose to complete the survey and record their story, which could be any time of the day. And the recording must activate automatically when they join.

I understand Qualtrics can record videos as part of a survey response option, but I wondered if there was a way to record these individual stories using Zoom.

Any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Yes you can do that. You setup a meeting that people can join without the host and with automatic recording enabled.

The meeting needs to be defined with registration required. Do not share the registration link with anyone. Just register the participants one-by-one, one after you have one person having completed his recording. You will require their emails and once you register a person, that person will receive an email with a link. So the best thing would be to let the people know that they will receive the link and write specific instructions for them in the editable part of the email that zoom sends after registration (or if you prefer before you register them).

Once the person has finished his recording, remove him from the list of participants and fill in the registration form for the next person. ( If you have a Zapier account, you will be able to automate the process). In this way you will end up with as many individual recordings as you register people.

The MOST important part of this process is to have very clear instructions for the people, so that they know that when they get into the meeting, they need to start their talk......if they want to repeat the recording, they should leave and END the meeting and come back again - this will start a new meeting and a new recording file.

I have done this before and it works, so if you run into any issues, just give me a shout out.

It is possible, but you could have lots of dead time recorded if they fail to disconnect and if the room camera is on by default they might see something they should not see.
