Registration to meeting hacked

Hello, 

We are holding a meeting open to our industry next week, posted this on LinkedIn with link to the registration page, and have gotten over 100 bogus registrants. Why did this happen and how to avoid in the future? Also, can I just cancel their registration or have things been compromised with the meeting?
