My meeting is being hosted by a paid Zoom member. I am a Basic (free) member. If the host grants me permission to record a 90-minute meeting, can I record even though the meeting is longer than 40 minutes (my limit if I were hosting)?

Welcome to the Zoom Community, @jackbvaughn1.

As a participant, you are not restricted as to length of time.  The 40-minute limit only applies to meetings that you own (schedule, start, etc.).  Keep in mind that you may have to request permission to record, and permission is up to the meeting host.  Also, as an attendee, you can only record Locally to your desktop device.  Local recording isn't available on phones or tablets.

Ray -- check out the GoodClix website.

Thank you so much!
