Participants from Second Meeting Join the First Meeting – Why Is This Happening?

Hi,
I'm experiencing an issue when scheduling 2 different Zoom meetings. If the first meeting runs longer than expected and overlaps with the second meeting's start time, participants who try to join the second meeting are automatically redirected into the first meeting instead.

This creates confusion and disrupts both meetings.

Both meetings were scheduled separately. I'm using the same Zoom account to host both meetings. The Zoom version is the latest.

Why is this happening, and how can I prevent it?
I want to ensure that participants can only enter their designated meeting, even if there's an overlap.

Thanks in advance!

@Seriouspike Can you check the meeting ID that was assigned to the two different meetings?

When scheduling a meeting, e.g., via the web site, you have the option for the Meeting ID  either

  • "Generate Automatically"
  • "Personal Meeting ID"

If you choose the Personal Meeting ID for scheduling the meetings, all invites will be to the same meeting ID and if the meeting with the ID is already running (e.g., the previous time slot still running) people joining your Personal Meeting ID will be joining the already running meeting.

In your case, please make sure that "Generate Automatically" is selected. Then the different scheduled meetings will have different meeting IDs, and people from different invites will not end up in the same meeting anymore.
