No way to mute sound on Android (not mic)

I'm using Zoom on Android and found there's no way to temporarily mute the meeting sound.  I DON'T MEAN MUTING THE MICROPHONE.

The physical audio buttons won't let me reduce the volume to 0, turning the screen off does not mute it, nothing mutes it.  The only way to turn off the sound is to "disconnect from audio".  But guess what, there's no way to RECONNECT to audio.  The only way to get audio back is to leave the meeting and rejoin.

How did anyone at Zoom think this was okay?  What ridiculous justification will they give for this?  Or will they just reply to say that the feature is not currently available?  This is absolutely dumb and many people have complained about it.

I am also having this exact issue. I have carers so when they come into the room to speak to me, I want to mute the meeting so they can't hear the zoom I'm in, but there doesn't seem to be a way to do it apart from leaving and rejoining.
