Installation of update 5.12 hangs on Mac OS 12.6 before displaying privilege elevation prompt

After downloading the update, the update process starts, but hangs at roughly 25-30% of progress bar. The expected privilege elevation dialog requesting the password to complete the installation is not displayed.
