How to save recording as an mp3

Does anyone know if it's possible to save as an mp3 rather than an mp4?  Even when I say download just the audio it saves it as an mp4

According to Zoom, this is not currently possible:

However, you can easily convert MP4, M4A, etc files to MP3 using a variety of free, safe, open-source tools. The most popular is arguably VideoLAN VLC Player:

The file conversion should take no more than a few seconds.
