How to acquire more Zoom Meeting Basic licenses?

Just got a notice that Zoom license terms are changing, now i have this error. I can't seem to add new users to my account.

"Some users will be unassigned Zoom Meetings Basic soon because you have exceeded the limit of Zoom Meetings Basic users. You can contact sales to learn about your options.
Number of Zoom Meetings Basic users exceeded: 1033
Days left: 30"

How do i fix this? Some of my new users are not able to schedule meetings. We provision accounts via SAML.

Did you ever figure this out? We're running into the same issue and are only 100 over.

I replied to the original poster with more details. Short version is, Zoom is capping free licenses and you have to pay for all the users exceeding that cap.

We just received our notice as well.

Speaking with Sales, Zoom is quietly limiting the number of "Zoom Meetings Basic" users on customer accounts. The only option is to pay for a full licensed seat for each "users exceeded".

I asked what the limit was, but they couldn't tell me. I also asked about any sort of customer notification, article, legal change, etc that could explain this change but they couldn't provide me anything as this was "a recent decision" with no documentation.

Folks - If you're reading this and you have a Zoom Account Rep, please reach out to them and voice your concerns. Zoom needs to know how customers feel about this change and how it is impacting your business and customer relationship.

My rep finally reached out, they sent me a policy document explaining the change: You get 1 basic license for every 10 workplace licenses you buy. It's bad.

Follow-up post with more info. I found this link buried in their release notes.

They spent a lot of time wording that release to make it sound positive.

Basically, they introduced a new "free" tier called "Zoom Workspace Basic" which does not have the ability to host meetings, only attend them.

Then, they took the previous "free" tier called "Zoom Meetings Basic" and made it a paid license. It sounds like they are softening the impact for some by giving out a "meetings basic" licenses for every 10 regular licenses.

So yes folks, if your users EVER need to host a meeting on zoom, they will now need a paid seat. This change was rolled in in July/August 2024 and it seems they are proactively notifying accounts using too many "Zoom Meeting Basic" (basically, everyone previously using the free seats), giving them a 30 day deadline to pay up or demote.

Love the part of the FAQ where they try to make it sound like they didn't get rid of the free tier. Hilarious. So sad..
