Galaxy Tab A (2016) update problem

I tried to update the Zoom app on an elderly, home-bound friend's Galaxy tablet but got into an unending circle of messages that I had updated the app to following refusals to connect to a Zoom meeting because the app needed to be updated. My friend's account shows that she has Zoom version 5.4.9 (1079) in spite of my efforts to update it to at least version 5.8.6. What is the problem? Perhaps that the tablet is too old/too limited in memory or whatever to update? Help, please! Zoom is one of the few ways my friend can still connect with others directly.
